In this ‘Meet the Team’ Q&A, we are delighted to introduce you to Eric Tant, a US qualified lawyer who has recently joined the Cleveland & Co team and who is focussed on growing our US capabilities. We sat down with Eric to ask him a few questions about his career so far, his experiences of Cleveland & Co and his love of sport!
Why did you join Cleveland & Co?
I joined Cleveland & Co for the opportunity to work with extremely bright people in a unique environment that focuses specifically on helping clients in the Investment Management space.
What are the best bits of working at Cleveland & Co so far?
I would have to say the diversity and range of matters I have the opportunity to work on as well as the opportunity to collaborate with other experts in the field.
Tell us about your career path.
I started out with banking and investment roles in New York before the financial crisis. Later on I pivoted to the art world, where I worked in the legal department of an auction house. I had always wanted to go to law school, and that experience helped clarify the decision for me. After completing law school, I worked in risk advisory and then in the US sub of a global investment bank. Later I moved to an international law firm, working in both New York and London, which eventually brought me to C&Co.
What do you love most about your job?
My colleagues that I get to work alongside and the people I get to speak with every day.
What is the best piece of advice you’ve ever received?
‘Make big decisions’.
If you didn’t go into law, what other role might you have done?
If I didn’t go into law, I might have become a writer or a journalist.
Favourite spot in London and why?
Anywhere along the river. I enjoy being near the water.
Tell us a surprising or a fun fact about you.
I am a keen runner, swimmer, and a cyclist!
